I Demand Equal Rights!

Yesterday I received a letter from my health insurance carrier. Along with the literature was a notice titled, “Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998″. It explains that federal law requires insurance carriers to pay for reconstructive surgery (ie. a boob job) for women who undergo mastectomies. Cancer is a tragedy, to be sure, and reconstructive surgery can provide some small degree of comfort to those who suffer.

Here is my gripe – why is there no “Men’s Health and Cancer Rights Act”? What happens if we suffer testicular cancer? Why doesn’t the government mandate that insurance carriers have to pay for neuticles?
